Any chance of a vertical 2x12 from PRS?

IMO, gigging with a vertical 2x12 works best for floor space vs. stage mix. I currently play my Archon through a vertical slant recto 2x12. They sound huge together, and I love that speaker cab. But I'd kind of like to get a cab that matches aesthetically with the amp. Seems like everybody is making tall horizontal 2x12 cabs, which are not at all suitable for gigging IMO.

Seeing the latest batch of custom cab/head combinations makes me want that too.

Anybody hear rumors? Can we start one?

Oh, it's a great idea. Doubt it will happen but I certainly don't know if one is in the works, or even being considered. The PRS cabs and speakers sound different than your Mesa cab. Both great, but different. PRS cab is warmer. Mesa speakers are warmer and the cab is tighter.

I asked a PRS sales rep about this when I saw him at an event. He suggested buying a PRS 2x12 and turning in on its side. I don't expect PRS to offer one. But I'd love to be wrong on this.

Sadly, that is a common "solution". My problem is that I really need to it be relatively tall and thin, plus have the top speaker slanted. No horizontal cabinet will do both. PRS gets you neither.

yeah but... hardly "settling" with the Mesa 2x12 vert. One of the best cabs out there!

My archon 100 matches my Mesa 2x12 vert quite nicely...is yours a different color by chance?

Sure, they're both black. But it would be cool to have the wood trim and maybe the signature to match. Especially if you have wood trim on the archon that is not black.

Yes, I've gone all goggly-eyed fanboy...

I have a pair of fanboy goggles myself...

OTOH, I loved - really loved - my HXDA 50 watter with a Mesa horizontal recto 212 cab, and I'm sure it'd have been great with a vertical model, too.

I've toyed with the idea of getting another recto cab to go with my HXDA 30 Watt amp. Even though it isn't a match. It sounded great!

There really is very little out there that competes with the sheer awesomeness of the rectifier cabs. I got a Bogner oversized 2x12 for my Shiva, but the recto horizontal cab killed it and at 2/3 the size.

The Boogie 2x's are both great cabs. But... the Bogner cabs are widely praised as THE best. The 1x and 2x closed/ported are both extremely highly thought of at TGP.

I have the PRS 2x12 now with my Custom 50. Due to the extreme coolness of a brother here, there is a 2x12 Recto in my very near future.

How about 2 1x12 Recto cabs?
Looks mean, but maybe too narrow for the Archon head?

I dunno...I loved the Bogner oversized 2z12 I had....maybe more than my Recto cab. It was a fantastic cab for the stuff I do. And of course "for the stuff I do" is going to vary from person to person!

Corey, you don't know how close I was to a slight variation of that. I almost ordered a Power Station a couple weeks ago for my V25 and Mini Recto. Now, I've found another slightly more awesome solution... ;) Yours will be more easy to move though.

Les, yes, lots of love for the Bog over at TGP. It's ported though, right? (I know the 1x everyone loves is) I think both of those Bogners have front ports and the whole cab is insulated inside. There are guys at TGP that have been through lots of gear that said once they got the Bogner 2x12 they would never get rid of it, "best cab I ever heard" etc. comments are common for owners of that cab. I'd like to try one.

But ported cabs sound and feel a little different and don't work for some guys, and some amps. (And some rooms for that matter). Elvis has been through Thiele's and the Widebody front ported Mesa cabs and has provided lots of great info over on The Boogie Board about them. He may just not bond as much with the front ports. And the Bogners are insulated which makes them "cleaner." Less internal waves pounding the back of the speaker cone creating smear and who knows what other colorations. Sometimes that works, sometimes people prefer without insulation as the colorations are pleasing or work for their style/amp/etc. While the effect is reduced in non-sealed cabs, Bogner obviously feels it still makes a significant difference because they do it to all their cabs (that I've ever heard of or seen).

The Bogner Shiva-sized 1x12 is dual-ported. Different cab. They also used to make a Shiva sized 2x12 with an open back, I had one of those, too.

The cab I had about ten-twelve years ago wasn't ported. It was a closed back cab, with a solid front baffle. Mine looked exactly like this.

I found that the Bogner 2x12 had tons of lows, but a bit muddy. So overall the recto cab had more useable lows, as it was tighter, even though it has less low-end. The Bogner did have a nice midrange saturation, a bit more character than the recto cab. It was actually a pretty close call, and definitely personal preference.

The thing that pushed the Bogner out the door was that on top of all that, it's physically huge.
