Does anyone know if the color antique white looks white or cream in person?

The S2 Vela i had in Antique White was rather cream or almost custard colored. Too much off off white IMO. It almost looked a little shabby somehow, it would have been a lot classier looking if it was less yellow/brown in it. The one I had was among the first they made, maybe they’ve changed the hue by now.

that sucks. The one I'm contemplating buying is the one in the first pic, it's supposed to be the exact same model as the one in pic 2. How can they look that different? It's so weird.

I just don't get PRS's color choices sometimes, why do all the guitars almost have to have all these colors and among them these completely weird ones like the one you mention? Why not have a glossy white and black in the CE range? They'd sell more guitars is my bet

White is very hard to photo accurately. Some of the ”Antique White” guitars I’ve seen in pictures recently look a lot more white than the one I had, but it’s hard to tell what they look like in person.

Is the bottom (2nd) one a “white washed” finish?
When you zoom in, you can see the grain of the wood beneath the finish.
Pretty damn cool.

Its a "satin" finish, no maple cap, they both have that finish. It's the same guitar even though it certainly doesn't look like it

I can tell you that white/white turns yellow in about a year. If the wood makes contact with your body and you perspire, it will turn darker yellow where it makes contact with your body. And we're not talking a yellow that would make me happy, personally. Antique white only turns a little darker, and looks beautiful as time goes on.

Antique white see-through finish will have a yellowish tint to it depending on the natural color of the wood underneath.
The darker the wood the more off-white the final see-through finish will be.
Off course the normal non see-through antique white finish will be more white.
Hope this makes sense...

thanks for all the help, but I've decided not to buy the guitar. The white satin just looks to cheap I think regardless of the exact shade of white

Matz,

The images look different because they photograph with different backgrounds. The eye perceives different colors because of the color shift from dark to light, and light on light. The perceived color will depend on what type background you have.

Hi Matz, I have lived in two places in England and the shops are good one was Andertons music store and the other is Peach guitars the truest colors in the picture is peach guitars
this time I purchased from "Guitar Guitar" music store I got the 2020 model it was the PRS S2 Standard Satin dot in Antique white this did have pickup covers that I prefer Guitar Guitar also gave it to their technician and came to me in perfect playability I was very impressed Antique White is the color of a guitar about 20 years old plus but it is a light cream playability is excellent, this year guitars will soon be back in the shops soon, anything you want to know just ask me, good luck and let us know how you get on

It changes depending on the light. I have seen my PRS DGT in antique white look very white and under certain lighting look creamy. I prefer the creamy look, but it does change.

I understand from someone I trust totally for PRS info, that indeed the white does turn a bit yellow. I actually don’t mind personally, kinda like old Ivory Piano keys..... at least to me in my mind. Everyone has their tastes. Go with what makes YOU happy!!

I have two Velas, one Antique White, one reclaimed. The antique white has the yellow-cream shade, I actually like the Antique look, but then my drum has a bit of a different beat;) Try to see one in person

Not only will the background change the perceived color, but the lighting will have an even bigger impact on how it shows.
