Sent back my first Starla, I waited over a week for a replacement part, never showed up, sent it back. I decided not to get a demo model, but "splurge" and get an unused new Starla with the bird inlays.... Very odd though, the finishes are both Vintage Cherry, but clearly the first one is much browner. A few imperfections on the new guitar itself to which, I believe, most companies would mark it as a factory 2nd. The S2 birds are not close to the beauty found regular Core USA models. Please don't interpret this as a slam or compliant. Just an observation.

The imperfections are a discoloration on the fretboard at the 5th fret and what appears to be a knot in the wood on the neck...

Couple things I need to point out. I did not realize the first one is actually Sienna, not Vintage Cherry. I was wrong about that.

Second thing is, none of the "concerns" I have are anything worth worrying about. The fretwork, setup, tone, etc, is absolutely top notch. This guitar will be my number 1 rock and heavy blues guitar without a doubt. I can't wait to gig with it and I'm very excited to be a PRS owner. Its not a core model and its not priced like one, so again, I shouldn't compare this versus one of them. Its nearly 1/3 of the cost. I shouldn't hold it to the same standards.

When I pay this one off, perhaps then I'll be in position to get a higher end core model. I'm thinking either a Single Cut or Custom 22.

I'm happy that you like the S2 Starla model! Is this color going to be to your liking for the long run?

I don't see how it could be. Honestly, I find myself wanting PRS's over Heritages. I find the quality of Heritages to be hit or miss. The consistency of PRS is best in the business. While I love the Heritage brand itself, its the people who are a part of that makes me stay.

I have recently experienced a change of taste regarding guitars. Until recently, all I liked was what I now call "vintage guitars", but now I find that I also like what I now call "modern, high performance" guitars (ie PRS). I still like both, the same way someone might have both a vintage Muscle Car in their garage as well as a brand new, modern technology, high performance sports car in their garage. But now I'm more inclined to grab one of my PRS guitars before grabbing one of my Heritage guitars. I still like Heritage guitars and I expect that I will always own at least one or two, but I only expect to be grabbing one of them when I'm in the mood for some vintage guitar mojo. Right now, PRS is my new number 1 while Heritage is a very close second. Heritage still does old school groovy stuff like body binding and hollow/semi-hollow bodies better than anyone (imho) but my PRS guitars are the first ones I go to to get the job done.

I've told both of you on the HOC that I have a similar perspective. Heritage is building the best guitar they can while looking back. PRS is building the best guitar they can looking forward. Both are right for what they are trying to do IMO.

Look DB, the gang's all here. hahaha. Now all we need to do is get H over here too. hahahaha
