Ok…hear me out.

Looking into the PS process (I’m selling a house post-divorce, after all). If a “consequential” piece of your dream one-off PRS was not possible…would you:

A. Suck it up and build a PS that was 85-90% what you dreamed up,

B. Take your business to someone like Kiesel who - minus some of the more luxury appointments - could more or less build you the guitar you wanted for roughly 1/3 of the cost, or

C. Save your pennies and buy a wood library or core that was a killer axe in its own right but not what you dreamed up?
I’ve been playing a few budget multiscales lately and the ergonomics are fantastically comfortable - so I cannot begin to imagine what a PRS PS would bring to the table, but I can’t stomach paying upwards of 12k for someone else’s PS iteration just to get into a multiscale…and the PS folks told my dealer they won’t do any more multiscale.
So. I know my audience. But would you suck it up and order the one-off axe sans multiscale? Trust it to another builder (sans body style, etc) and save $8-10k? Or just grab another PRS (probably a 408 or an NF53 and ask my tech or the PTC to make some swaps) and chalk your dream axe up as “the one that got away?”
(I’d add “asking for a friend” but y’all are too smart for that one.)

For what it’s worth, when I was building out the PS a year ago I had to make adjustments based on what PRS was willing to do. However I had a couple of features where I drew the line that if they couldn’t or wouldn’t do it then I wouldn’t go through with the private stock. If your heart is set on multiscale, I wouldn’t compromise.

Staying in PRS land I'd suggest option #3 and be PATIENT. It took me 2 years to find a rosewood neck DGT , much less in the finish I wanted.

Being a luthier , and I had Carvin ( before the sons took over ) build me custom neck thru blanks for years. Well done , but I always re carved them after I got them. I think PRS is the best production instrument around. For electrics full customs at that level , due to the economy of scale are hard pressed to match the overall quality at price point, not that we all don't try.

If multi-scale is really a "must have" configuration, then I wouldn't compromise on that and waiting to find one PRS Private Stocks made that way on the used market is tough given the limited numbers made. Only you really know what your priorities are, so what is really important to you?

But if it's multi-scale you could also get a Mayones = Great build quality and if you don't find one at a dealer, you can custom order your specifications (wait time is pretty long though).

I love my PS, but wouldn’t order one that wouldn’t give me what I really wanted. It would be lost money, because I know I would end up placing another order to get what I wanted.

I also wouldn't go the PRS route if I couldn't get what I really wanted. I know they won't do some things anymore, and some of those may, or may not, be a deal breaker for me.

Don't Go To The Dentist For A Vasectomy...

PRS Isn't In The Multi Scale Business So Go To A Builder Who Is And Have The Guitar You Really Want Made. With The Money Saved For A PS Compromise Get A Used PRS Guitar That Scratches Your Particular Itch So You Have Something Awesome To Play While Your Build Is Being Made. :)

More Guitars = More Better

Well based on what Gtrbldr posted:
This might work as well?

I would be contacting Ish Guitars! If you read through the text there, Jesse at Ish indicates that they have a dealer exclusive right to sell multiscale/fanned PRS 6 stringers. I have had really good interactions with them and I think it was the 2023 PS calendar featured one of their builds on the cover ;~)) Best wishes in figuring it out!
