Just got this little beauty last Friday and I have big plans for her. I cant say enough about how great these are. The neck is just butter, and not just any butter. I'm talking about that good, lick it off the plate, welcome the heart attack, garlic butter. Stock pickups have a very nice tone. The neck is a little darker than i'm used to, but that's nothing a little EQ wont fix.

Its probably got the 3rd nicest top I've seen on a ZM as well.

She will eventually get a Ghost Piezo system (hopefully retrofitted into the stock bridge), a US nut, and MAYBE some 59/09s

EDIT: I already put some covers on the pickups that I heat treated (for that tempered steel rainbow look) and brushed. The didn't change the tone any that I could discern.

Here she is!

Congrats, that looks great! The more I see the zebras, the more I like the covers!

That is indeed a really great top on that one. The covers kick it up a notch too. Congrats!

Congrats. The ZM is a great looking guitar I wish I could get one.
A question for you. How did you get covers on? Ive got a Bernie with zebras, and I cant stand the look of Zebras. I want covered pups and Im thinking I may not be able to P/U a set of 59/09s for awhile. Maybe covering them would be an option.

I'll preface this by saying that I have not added covers before (replaced pu's, yes, but not just put on covers). However, I understand that this is a pretty easy job. Good fitting covers can be gotten from Philadelphia Luthiers. I believe several forum members have gone this route.

I got a 50mm and 52mm cover from philly luthier supply. I removed them from the pickup rings and quite literally slid them on . I didnt do any extra wax potting, but will be doing so in the near future. Ive got another set coming that I want to try the heat treating a little differently on. When i put the next set on, i will put some wax chips in the pickup cover to create a little pool of wax, melt it with a heat gun and push the pickups into the pool of melted was. That will be just enough to kill any microphonics.

Thanks for the info.

The Philadelphia Luthier Tools covers work great. I got the raw nickel, and scuffed them up with a new scotch bright kitchen pad. Exactly what I wanted on my SE 245.
