I love new toys, and this has been a good couple weeks :).

I went from Helix back to tubes, because, well, tubes. However, as I tend to do, when I went Helix I sold all my pedals, because I didn't need them, and wanted to fund the other toys without irritating Mrs Aahzz. So, I now have the lovely new amp, which rocks, and the new S2 Custom 22, which rocks...what's missing?

Found a great price on a used HX Effects. Most of what I love in the Helix without paying for the amp models or extra processing. Perfect. Seller on Reverb was only asking $360, free shipping, with the expression pedal included, which is a noticeable amount under the going rate - couldn't hit the buy button fast enough :). Arrived yesterday, and I adore it...one preset will do 98% of what I'll ever use. For now, I'm using it in pedalboard mode, with the amp footswitch separate. I may end up making a custom cable so it can switch the channels on my amp (VHT sent my directions on how to do it) and get more into complex switching, but for now, it sounds great and it works great.

Only thing that was weird was the previous owner had velcro on it, which I expected, but it was the fuzzy side!! That's backwards from any pedalboard I've ever seen, headed out shortly to buy new velcro because I'm out.

Since we as a group alway love pictures...

That's a great deal!! How do you like the D50? What can you tell me about it? I'm very intrigued by those amps....

I am ludicrously in love with the D-50! Incredibly versatile, and essentially impossible to get a bad tone out of it. I've paired it with the matching VHT 1x12 cab. I've heard some people say the stock speaker sounds fizzy at high gain, but it's worked great for me, as I'm a medium gain guy at most (with occasional exceptions :) ). I'm planning to add a second VHT cab to have a mini stack. Plenty of volume to gig, nice amount of clean headroom and great cleans, with a lot of overdrive range as well. I think the only thing bad I can say about it is that I wished they'd used a standard TRS jack for the footswitch, rather than a modified midi connector. At least their support team has been responsive to questions and told me how to modify a standard midi cable to stick a TRS plug on the other end to make it usable with the HX or standard 2-button foot switches. Given the price for an all-tube, hand wired ODS-type amp, it's freaking amazing - I'd pay a bunch more for it.

Glad to hear about the D-50 VHT Dumble type… ive owned a few Fuchs, Two Rocks and others that just didn’t do it for me.. might have to give the D-50 a go.. the price certainly is right.. you say it’s handwired? Even better…….my DGT would be happy!

It's a ridiculously good deal - yup, all handwired, all tube, lightweight...I don't know if it sounds like an actual Dumble or not, but it sounds really good to me :).

Here's the interior shot from VHT showing the wiring
