another M pickup question

Does anybody know why PRS routes the wires of the M bridge pickup out the side and not through the hole drilled in the metal base? I was giving the seller of the uncovered set I just bought hell for modifying the bridge pickup. He didn't know what I was talking about. I checked the covered set and that bridge pickup is the same way.

Dang, that's really fugly. I would have also accused the seller of modding them
