Anniversary of D-Day

Today is the anniversary of The Normandy Invasion aka D-Day. There are very few of these heroes left today, so if you know one please be sure to thank them for their sacrifices and heroism. They helped to save the world from tyranny and preserve our Freedoms, and our debts to them will never be fully paid.

the fact that only 2 people in 20 hours have relied to your post shows you what a sad state our society has fallen into anymore. my father and 3 uncles were WWII, my dad's brother was wounded in france and died a few years later at 32 from complications of his wounds never healing properly. god bless all those young men ,and that whole "greatest generation". it makes me furious how the [mod edit] people have no interest in our history anymore, but then again there being taught by a bunch of [mod edit] who could care less also. when the WWII generation is gone, so will be most of our values and morals!!! DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED!!!. thanks for your post, and i find it very sad more people haven't chimed in.

My Grandfather spent almost 2 years in cave as a POW in Burma ..................... & I miss him. He loved his Country. They were a rare breed back then. It is sad that so many do not appreciate the lives that have been spent for our freedom!

Mine too. His was the first tank on Omaha Beach on D-day. Thank goodness he was in a tank.

They were indeed the greatest generation.

My Gramps was in Burma too. My Great Uncle (who is still alive) took names of many of the fallen from that beach and wrote letters to the families - detailing the courage of those men in their final hours.

On my Dad's side... surviving in Holland while helping hide Jews was everything they could manage.

Forever thankful for those that served and currently serve. Visiting Normandy last year was one of the most breathtaking and humbling experiences. The sheer beauty and magnitude of the cemetery is overwhelming. Walking along the beach and seeing everything from the perspective of those brave heroes is something I'll never forget. Cannot imagine how life would be today if that day had gone differently.

My Grandfather was in wwII but wouldn't talk about it. He brought back a german knife but wouldn't talk about that either. I cant even begin to understand what guys like him went through during that time.

Like Shawn, my 9 year old is interested in history too particularly wwII. Now my grandfather is 90 and his mind is gone now. He doesn't know who I am or who my son is and that really makes me sad. My son may never understand what kind of man his great grandfather was but we talk about it often. When we watch wwII programs on history channel my son will ask, did great grandpa Kenny have to do that or did great grandpa Kenny do this? All I can say is, I don't know son. Those things were just too painful to talk about.

So my son may not understand what kind of man his great grandpa is, but I sure do. That is something I will never forget.

Such a historic day. Its hard to even imagine the amount of sacrifise people made back then to be part of such an important movement, even more hard to imagine what the world would be like if the didn't....
