Am I the only one...

I find myself playing my zach myers SE live a lot and my s2 McCarty 594 because I like the switch on the upper bout of the guitar. I have a McRosie that sadly almost never gets played live. Almost never gets played at all anymore TBH since I got the S2.

If you told me my SE Hollowbody Piezo was an S2, I’d believe it. It is that good. I will admit though, playing my Core guitars is a special thing….

Many SE models don't have an equivalent in a Core model. If that is the model that moves you, or the only one you can legitimately afford, play it with pride. I have SE models and I play them because they are different. I play my core models more, but again, they do something the SE's don't. Some of that is aesthetics, some is the feel, and some the sound. There's a reason the cores are so much more expensive. It isn't just being snooty; they do something extra. I've said this so much it's becoming a mantra... Buy the best guitar you can afford. If the best guitar for you is an SE, then you got the best guitar without having to pay the high cost of a core. Fantastic...play it with pride!

My SE EG is still the king of my single coil equipped PRS. I don’t want it to be, I keep buying Core guitars in an attempt to usurp it.

My flat topped SE CU22 Semi w/Bigsby is an exceptional guitar that I just plain played more than my HBI spruce.

My Bernie and my Soapbar II are so ridiculously good I don’t even look for Cores to replace them with.

However, they’re ancillary guitars, ie: not my main thing.

My “main thing” happens to be a trio of Core guitars, and I bought an SE version for scientific purposes. Not close at all aside from the shape.

I have a few amazing Core Prs, a '92 CU24 and a '08 Mira which have thousands of gigging hours on them. But most recently I find myself reaching for my 2018 SE CU24 for jamming and even gigs. Not because I don't want to play my core out ... but because it is just so nice to play. I like the weight and balance, the feel of the maple neck and the tone of the pickups. It's just fun to play.

Anyone else find themself reaching for the SE when they have Core guitars?
I do occasionally tell myself that I prefer the bolt-on snap and simplicity of my CE24 to my Cores, but then I play the Cores again and I love them even more. For me it's about variation. I just like having these different sounding and feeling instruments.

I briefly owned a singlecut SE. Back then, I didn't know the difference between an SE and a US made. I didn't like it. I don't own a Core because I'm poor, but my S2 just felt so right!

Sorry.

Nope, only cores and up. My SE was sold due to limited (read none) airtime. Great guitar in its own right, but not as good as the others

Not me. I like the SEs, they’re nice guitars. But the cores are simply better in every level (but price, I suppose) to me. I use the SEs for less formal things and like them just fine. But when it’s time to make money, I reach for a core model every time.

Yes! I have 2 cores and 2 S2’s in PRS traditional Double & Single cutaway, but the Santana is a different shape, different tones, different neck. Granted I had a MannMade bridge installed by John Mann and I installed a pair of USA PRS 245’s and a set of planet waves locking tuners. The tones are great from it….
