Am I the only freak who smells his PRS when opening the case?

Nah, it's not that uncommon. Folks do the same whenever they buy a new car...the new car smell...Mom's do the same for their newborns...they bond with the smell of their offspring...I'd say humans long-term memory is based on what smells we remember as children, so a new PRS in a case? You're building memories here.

The multi-fit cases have a wonderfully unique scent to them. The closest I can get to describing it is “cinnamon”, but that’s really not it.

Maybe with a nice acoustic, with electrics it just smells like paint. My new Strat knocks me back a step with car paint fumes every time I open the case. I was a professional painter for a number of years when younger so it’s honestly not that exciting. My acoustics smell like a fine wood shop :)

I posted something on the topic about a year ago.

I was at an outdoor festival. Wafting across the air at one particular moment were scents from a particular vendor that smelled exactly like what I sensed with a new PRS case.

Kettle corn.

To me, the PRS cases smell of freshly made kettle corn. That hint of vanilla and butter and tiniest hint of caramel (possibly just from the heating of the kernels, not even added "caramel").

I shamelessly admit I've been doing it once in a while for the nitro ones (usually when they arrive).
For poly I can't say I really smell anything interesting (aside from the polishing compound maybe?).

I sure am. I’m glad I’m not the only one who loves the smell.

If perhaps you're like me, do you remember your Grandma's kitchen during Sunday dinners? What your favorite meal was? Sometimes the things we can't see or hear are most strongly embedded in our memories because of our sense of smell.

There are both pleasant odors, and unpleasant ones. Unpleasant ones we remember because we associate them with difficult times we've experienced, or they've served as warning examples, whereas the pleasant ones bring to mind joyful times.

That being said, I'm thankful for still having the faculty of all my 5 senses. What with Covid-19, people who lose their sense of smell because of a positive diagnosis are truly missing out on life, not only because the sense of smell is associated with taste, but also because there's nothing quite like smelling a freshly mown lawn after a brief summer shower. These things are ingrained indelibly for our enjoyment.

Enjoy that guitar case. I'll be doing the same soon.
