Am I supposed to be taking the hint? Forum problems.

My account here is jacked.

A couple of months ago weird sh!t started happening with my ability to search the forums and what threads actually show up under "new posts", for instance I type in "Slayer Sunday" and it comes back with "no matches". If I post a new thread people can (and occasionally do) reply to it but it won't show up under new posts and it's only if I go to the Activity Stream that I'll see that the thread has been updated.... Are you guys trying to tell me something?

I have tried logging out and then back in again which didn't do anything to fix the problem, and when I go to my profile to check my latest started threads there's only a small selection of threads I have started that pop up,... Have I posted too much drivel on here that I've used up all the memory on my profile? Is it kinda like my inbox getting too full?

I'm a little concerned because there were a couple of times that people have felt snubbed that I didn't reply to a post they made, when in all seriousness... I just didn't see it! I mean, there are threads I started that I can't even find after going through the ENTIRE section of the forum, and the "general discussion" and "artist's and music" sub-forums seem to be where I miss the most. I actually had to have Hans send me a link to my own thread or bump it in order to even see it.

Anybody else having any problems? Is there something I'm doing wrong or something I've set my computer to do that would cause this? I hate to holler at James 'cause I can't find some goofy thread about Valentines Day or my "Little Guitar" thread that nobody's into but me,... but I am worried that I don't leave somebody hanging if they ask me a question or something, I swear I'm not trying to be a dick (or any more of one than I already naturally am).

Thanks!

See? I just posted this and I can't even search for it while using the exact title and it doesn't show up under new posts.

The search function on the forum has never worked well for me either, I think it just kinda sucks. I have a lot better luck straight up googling and just typing "official PRS forum" as part of the search.

Also, I just noticed your El Cunado avatar... hilarious!

F@ckin' LOVE Rafi... Best TV character ever.

Yeah, see... I had to check the activity stream to even see that you posted on this, whereas there were at least five different threads that have been started or bumped that showed up under new posts..

I just go right to the activity stream first every time, seems to be the most reliable. I've had the same problem with the other forum pages!

This started happening to me too a few months back.
I even brought it up with Shawn and the admin.
The search does not work for certain sections, and the "New Posts" link is the same way, here is the sections affected:
http://prsguitars.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?47-General-Topics

After going to the New Post button, now I also go to my Control Panel to look at threads I am subbed too, as some of them are in those other sections not getting picked up with the search or new posts feature.
I also manually go into the General section now to see new stuff.

Sounds like it is a simple fix in the admin control panel.
That section may have been turned off some how to exclude it from search and new posts.
All it should take is is a simple "tick" of a checkbox to fix it.

And yes, since this is in the General section, I will have to subscribe to this thread so I can see new posts via my Control Panel.

Hmmm, weird. I've been very absent the last month, so I hadn't noticed -I'll have to pay attention.

Thanks Corey, I'm glad to know it isn't just me then... Do all of your older posts show up in your profile when you search started threads?
I am not sure.
Any threads I do start though I subscribe to them.
But I too have done the Google thing like Andy explained above, and Google found some threads by others I wanted to post in that did not come up in search.

I've had the same problems searching. Frustrating when you can't find something you know exists. You would think searching "experience"

might produce some results; not so.

I've also had the problems mentioned in this thread.

vBulletin's (the forum software) search stinks, it's that simple, and there's nothing they can really do to make it better.

Use Google. The best way to do it is to type "search term" and follow it with 'site:prsguitars.com/forum' and it will limit the search to only that. Which is cool, you can search for esoteric stuff that vBulletin can't index properly, like 'S2' for example.

So in the Google search bar, type -> S2 site:prsguitars.com/forum

and you'd get all of Google's 'S2' indexing goodness.

If PRS wanted to help us all out and save us a step there is a Google search plugin the forum admins could add-on but I don't think it's free.

I'd be screwed if I "ignored" you Les, you pretty much make up a third of this sites content with me making up another third, and then everybody else...

I think we should go on strike, then.

Better pay. Benefits!
