All I need now is a couple of three coats of satin nitro clear to bring the shades together more!

Good plates, but I did end up having to sand two sides two make it fit. Better a little big than a little small! I'll give the vendor that! First time I've ever seen 3rd party wooden plates for an MEV!

I'm happy!

I think I would go contrast on that since the grain doesn’t match. Maybe try to match the color on the neck.
Yeah, I already ordered some stains. Either the green I bought will work with a black sanded contrast base or I'll
mix Navy Blue and Yellow to taste... I'll test it and get the color I want on the back sides of the plates first or some
scrap maple I think I have lying around. I'll probably grain fill with made for ash filler I already have and sand it
before the charcoal/black stain and sand.

That reminds me... gotta go grab some more 400 grit... all out. Dohhh

The nice thing , as long as you go easy , you can adjust until you get just what you want.

my favorite part of a build is getting the maple tops to look deep with many subtle shades depending how the light hits it.
several light coats with slight shade variations , back sanded then a little massaging of the borders .. .. "the dragons breath " effect .. Enjoy .

I would have bought flame maple plates if he would have had them. However, it's the first set of wooden plates for an MEV I've ever seen for sale. If I don't like them, I'll try to find some thin maple stock and break out the scroll saw and cut a set.
