Alex Van Halen Memoir

He sounds bitter to me. To basically not even include Hagar in their legacy ("then we had some other singers") is ludicrous, and transparently shows his vitriol. I loved EVH's playing, and the band's music. But EVH could be a jerk, and his brother followed suit... and is still doing so apparently. What a shame. Sammy tried over and over to contact him to be involved with the recent tour, but Alex wouldn't even return calls/messages. There's something wrong with the VH brothers, IMO. Like maybe they are bipolar or something. Your BEST FRIEND for years (and in Mike's case, decades), then all a sudden, you're the devil. THEY were the devils, from everything I have read and heard over many years.

It's a good thing I can separate artists from their personalties (and politics), or I wouldn't have much to listen to at all...

I prefer to just enjoy the music. Any time I have ever heard anything about the band interactions, it's been negative and childish... like many that reach the top and implode under the weight of their own demons being loosed by fame and fortune.

They made some monumentally great music, and I have happy memories of life with that music as a backdrop. I'll hold on to that and let the foolishness drown in its own cesspool.

I listened to the NPR interview. It sounded like he thinks fighting is a normal way of making decisions. I hope he can find a path towards peace. They made great music. I don’t like every song, but even the ones I don’t like have good qualities. They were definitely a part of my development in appreciating music.

I've kind of developed the same opinion of the VH brothers as well.

Still love that VH music though.

I frequently put a VH CD in and pan to the guitar side and take it all in.
