Hi everyone!

It's my first thread in this community, and that's is since I need the help of someone who knows exactly how it sounds the PRS magic, and what better than asking here ;)

I own a SE Akesson running through a mini-rectifier, and i'm planning to upgrade her PUs. I mainly Play progressive Rock/Metal (a versatile sound, going from cristal clean to almost heavy metal distorsion ). I've been told from the guys from a local store to buy the HFS/Vintage Bass combination.

Do you think this is a good choice? The other set i was thinking was the Dragon 2 ones. I'd love to take the 59/09s but i can't afford them.

I'd be thrilled to hear your opinions about it!

thanks,

Kivaz

Also think about the Tremonti pickups, he plays cleans and hard rock/metal in his music and the pickups were designed for him. I also play through a mini-recto too and I like the sounds I get with them.

I can't comment on your initial choices though, as I don't have any experience with them. Someone here should be able to help with those.

In the "classic" family of PRS pups, I think HFS/VB would be your best bet.

As far as the "modern" line, 59/09 would definitely be the way to go. IMHO, these are not only some of the best to come out of PRS but some of the best on the planet...

You should contact a dealer, you might be surprised at the deal you could get on a set of 59/09s...

Good choice with the Akesson, I have one too and LOVE IT. I play more standard and classic rock with a bit less gain, but I've definitely noticed the SE245 pickups aren't as hot as I would want for the more intense stuff. I would definitely go for the HFS/VB, they'll give you a bit more attack and zing compared to the DII's, at least from what I've heard the DII's are kind of dark and might not react well to the thicker body and darker tone of the 245 style guitars.

What did you end up going with? I myself and debating 59/09 or Tremonti pups in my Akesson
