Greetings sisters and brothers. Big question here. Big. I'm going to my 50th school reunion in south america. we are going to jam with the usual suspect.

1. Is the PRS Santana Retro, 10-top guitar case -the one they shipped it- good enough for me to check-in at the United counter ? will the guitar move, there is nothing holding it, except for the top of the case.

I used to fly biz class and never had a problem using the biz class bins. Now, I'm doing economy and the attendants inside the plane may say the scary words "you need to check in the guitar".

Help, Please !!!!!!!!

There is a law now that if the airline can accommodate it, musicians can carry on their instruments.

It would be best to get to the counter early and get friendly with the staff as they have extra areas and get on the plane as early as possible.

IMHO I would never check a guitar again. The baggage people do not care, and may even treat it more roughly.

My $0.02. have a wonderful trip!

The trouble is that may be true for the outgoing trip from the US, but assumptions made under US laws may not be valid for plane changes outside the US, or for the return trip.

I wouldn't check a guitar in a standard wooden PRS case, that's just asking for heartbreak. If you're set on traveling with a guitar, and you have to risk checking it, a good flight case is a much better idea.

These days, I'd probably just make arrangements to rent or borrow a guitar at the destination if I didn't have a flight case. Years ago I traveled to Europe to do some recording, and carried my guitar in a leather gig bag, and was able to put it in the hanging closet in the front of the plane, but I realize now that was plenty risky.

Man. This is a big decision. I'm with you. I really don't want to check the guitarra either. Thanks for the help!

Rent or borrow. That's the ticket. I arrive 2 days before the shindig. Gotta hit the streets to find one, if lucky maybe i score a les paul or some humbucker guit. Live long & Prosper !

There are music equipment rental companies in lots of cities all over the world that cater to touring and recording artists. I've rented equipment for sessions in London, Paris, and Amsterdam. The equipment arrived at the studios in perfect working order, in road cases.

Do this.. you have a Santana? I’d never fly with it…. Take you 2 or 3 years to get a new one… rent!
