Suno and Udio are the hottest companies doing this now, AFIK. They're scary enough to the major labels that they're being sued for possibly using copyrighted music for training their AI models.

More formulaic than artistic but they crank out songs fast and for free. Two examples that took about a minute each to generate from short prompts like: "a love song, uptempo, hard rock guitars pop rock" from Suno (fill in the name of your significant other) or "a song about gals on the beach, pop rock, guitar, hard rock, uptempo" from Udio (also on YT below).

Not gonna win any awards but was at least interesting enough to get Suno $125 million from investors.

Bloomberg's commentary: "Give Suno a command—for example, “Sing me a reggae ballad about anchovies on pizza”—and its software will deliver, churning out a surprisingly complex, human-sounding song in seconds, complete with vocals and rhyming lyrics."

In fairness, it does say "human-sounding", not "talented human-sounding".

Just the few seconds of that sample that I listened to made it pretty clear that this would probably appear as Exhibit A in the case of "I Told You Gene Simmons Was A Better Writer Than You Thought".

I don't think @László should be worried for now.
The first thing that hit me when reading the OP was that if that every one of these "songs" that a radio station can mix into their playlist, is another $0.11 they can save in artist royalties. Taking that a level further, a station could generate their own "hits" develop fake artists, and play this "music" exclusively, and have no royalty fees at all to pay. Of course, it wouldn't be long before they'd have AI DJ's as well, and now one guy could create and completely operate a radio station.

I just had a multi-billion dollar business idea! I need a little backing but I can do the rest. Who's in for "Taylor Swiftbot?"

Contact ElevenLabs.

That above news article on hot AI startups also noted (for your AI DJ's):
"In a critical year for elections, ElevenLabs’ technology is freaking people out. The company is at the forefront of voice-cloning AI, with software that can replicate a person’s voice, turn text into human-sounding utterances and translate speech from one language to another.... Early this year, ElevenLabs banned a user for creating faked audio of President Joe Biden urging people not to vote in the New Hampshire primary."

And you already know what it's like to be banned.

That sounds awful. Are people actually ok with listening to this?
Not sure how much "choice" the people have when it comes to what they listen to. A very large part of the populations is told what they will listen to and the majority of them comply! I am not trying to start an argument here, just saying that people are having sh!t shoved down their throats and into their minds without even realizing it. The "choice" for many is in large part based on what the corporations choose to promote!
