Guys I just bought a hollow body II in Makena Blue with a gorgeous ten top from an Authorized dealer. I open up the case...she's a beauty...however after looking around, I noticed there was no hang tag included with the usual case candy. I called up the place and they told me they think they had it. I get a call 2 hours later and they said that they simply cannot find it and I already know that PRS will not make another under any circumstances. They offered me $100 credit on future purchase...

I am aware this hurts the resale value of the guitar, and I am unsure about what to do about the situation. I'm also a little OCD when it comes to my guitars, so when stuff is missing, etc. it's like an itch I cannot possibly scratch.

What do you guys think I should do?

I guess it comes down to whether you bought it to play it or resell it. If the former, ignore and rock out, if the latter then you may need to do something about it, depending on how much you think you may lose in the deal. (Or, if it just bothers you so much that the tag is missing you can never play the guitar without being bothered by it then maybe another option). Me, I couldn't tell you if my guitars even came with tags much less where they are now. I've lost Custom Shop COA's in a move and not thought twice about it.

Take the $100 credit and move on.

In reality, having the case candy and hang tag are nice for resale, but once your guitar is 'used', as it is now, it really isn't going to make much difference in its resale value.

The exception would be if you intended to lock the guitar away unplayed so that you could sell it in the future as used, but all original and unplayed. And if that is what you're after, gold is a better and safer investment.

I think the case candy was there, but just not the hang tag.

While PRS might replace missing case candy (they call the bag "giblets"), if he got a replacement hang tag, he'd be the first anyone here has heard of - they just don' replace hang tags.....

I would have the dealer call PRS and get you the missing materials. It can be done...

they called PRS already and were given the standard, Hang tags are one of a kind documents that cannot be reproduced under any circumstances.

In other news...I am now over it. It only lasted for about 20 mins until i thought to myself, "um do you play these bad boys or do you lock them in your vault underground where they never see the light of day." I don't invest in guitars. I play them.

Thanks rugerpc, gball, and watelessness!

instead of the $100 credit on a future purchase, tell them to knock the $100 off this purchase.

So glad you were able to get past it - that rocks.

Incidentally, if I were buying used (or new) I wouldn't care about the hang tag at ALL. Reminds me of keeping the tag on a suit, or keeping the window sticker for a new car. In fact, I've often simply thrown them out.

I saved the certificate for my Private Stock only because it mistakenly has the wrong tuners listed and that's kind of fun.

"Look how mint it is, even has the hang tag!"

Yeah, cool, whatever. ;)

Yeah if you dig the guitar and I assume you do since you got it home...find the power to move on with the $100 credit I think. I don't think the tags are going to kill your resale if it comes to that at a later date.

As always, your response makes me laugh!

Umm.. I think you made the right choice keeping it. Nice!

I see that you've moved on and decided to keep the guitar. Which I agree with I think that's the right move

However, you could have made a complaint with your credit card company. But again I don't think it's worth the hassle

I'm glad you moved past it - I was going to suggest a sandpaper undershirt to scratch that itch!

Take the $100 and run! The tag is nice to have, but ask yourself - if you were buying it used, would it be a deal-breaker? Don't get me wrong - I fully get the desire to have everything in perfect shape with a new purchase. I once asked Eric Martin about a ding in a case for a guitar he'd shipped. To his great credit, he offered - several times - to send me a new case if the ding bothered me. My only concern was that the integrity of the case was compromised (my playing compromised the integrity of the guitar).

Then again, I *am* the guy who had two threads in two forums about whether the foam on a guitar stand would hurt my nitro guitar, so...
