New member here looking for some advice. I have a 2012 PRS SE custom 22 semi hollow and I’m wondering how hard it would be to add a tone knob. I bought this guitar new and really like it, but whenever I switch to the bridge pickup I need to then roll the tone knob almost all the way down, and then back up when switching back to the middle or neck position, which is kind of annoying. I’d like to have independent tone knobs for the two pickups but still have the one master volume. I thought this would be a relatively easy/common thing to do, but I’m not finding much on the internet. I’m not looking for a detailed explanation on how to do it myself since I would probably have someone do it for me, I’m simply looking for peoples experience if it’s easy/possible. Thanks in advance.

Wiring is very doable. Here’s a diagram with no splits. Wire colors are different for PRS pickups, SE also. There are other diagrams for splits there if you want.

The main issue I’d see is pot placement and room in the existing electronics cavity. You might have to have it be tight and the knobs close together. Perhaps use a concentric pot instead?

A free thing to try is changing the height of the bridge pickup to alter its tone.

And another thing to try could be wiring a tone cap inline for the the bridge pickup before it hits the rest of the wiring, if you always find it too harsh.

Yes, like @Ovibos suggested, lower your bridge pickup and lower the 6 pickup screws….That will warm it up. You can cut treble more by turning the pickup around so that the slug coil is on the bridge side. Also, lower the screws, or try raising them when it’s turned around
