Just trying to find some new acoustic players to check out.
Enjoy Michael Hedges, Kaki King, Andy McKee, Paco de Lucia (who doesn't right?)
Give me some new stuff to listen to!
Tommy Emmanuel. Fantastic player, greater person. I've never heard him be anything but encouraging to other players. And a great showman, too.
Tony McManus. I've met him a couple times at Experience, and he's another great player who's an even better person. Like Tommy, wickedly funny sense of humor. I still laugh when I think about the time at Experience he was talking about learning a Bach piece but he hadn't gotten it all down yet. Someone asked him if he could play part of the beginning. He tuned, took a couple deep breaths, dramatically strummed the first chord, which rang out beautifully, then said, "So, that's how it starts..."
Another one for Tommy Emmanuel here. And Jerry Reed. Also, I'm a big fan of Willie Nelson's guitar playing. Every time I listen to him I hear something new.
I'd like to throw another name into the mix, and that's Buster B. Jones. He passed away in 2009, but I think his playing was incredible. He was a fingerpicker similar to Jerry Reed, Chet Atkins, etc.. There are plenty of clips of him on YT, and here's one of his more delicate tunes called "Fingers in Flight".
