A tale of two McCarty pup swaps...

Sometimes DC had the +. It's not often but it happens. PRS has played with various iterations of the 5815LT over the years and models.

Glad everything worked out as you hoped! Hopefully you’re a few craft beers in on your day already! 🍻

As an aside, when I went to Dave’s in LaCrosse a few weeks ago, I stopped at 608 Brewing just down the road and found a few nice IPA’s. So I came home with a few 4 packs of tallboys along with a vintage Martin from Dave’s. It was a fine day. Almost made me want to book a hotel so I could take an Uber to the brewery and get D-runk and hang on the Mississippi and play guitar all day.

Oooohhh... You could tune the guitar in drop D-runk!

So, how was the week-end ? What are your conclusions on this swap ?

Good question.
Here's the deal so far...
I'm a big fan of the 58/15 LT pups, and I absolutely love them in the SC. It became my number one.
Putting them in my McCarty was a big win, and they'll stay there.
The + pups are also excellent. I like them a lot. That said I would have been just as happy buying a 58/15 LT set for the McCarty and leaving the SC stock. Do I regret doing this? No way, but if anyone buys a recent 594 SC with stock pickups they will NOT be disappointed, at all!
Hope that helps!

And now for something completely different. I put Joe Naylor's Hyper Vintage Railhammers in my '06 McCarty when they first came out (even got the "low introductory" price); covers were not available at that initial release time. They've stayed right there. Low output PAF voiced extremely articulate pickups that can work with any pedal you want in front of them. Great consistent tone even with big, full step to step&a half bends. Never any woofiness on the low end. I had a DC 594 with the 58/15LT's, and the Railhammers, when compared back-to-back were easily as articulate top to bottom and had what I considered just a tad-better pick-response than the 58/15lp's. When you dig in with the Railhammers you'll get great instant "more" so setting the amp to edge of breakup will let you easily push it with your pick.

Dag nab it... I stashed my meter somewhere and can't find it... yet... 🤨
My non-LT 58/15 bridge is 8.58k. Assuming the 58/15 LT is 7.75k, I'll guess the LT+ is around 8.0, a bit more than the LT and less than 1/3 of the way back to the non-LT.

Of course it's not my ears actually listening to any results.
