A tale of two McCarty pup swaps...

Awesome! I do plan on keeping the neck split, but seriously looking forward to the change!
I will add this......while I absolutely LOVE tone of the neck PU, the bridge is a little different.

I can't say that I fall in love with the tone when I play bridge pickup but it is just so balanced and single note stuff just has this "push" that feels like a great tube amp dimed .

It's really strange, the biggest challenge is finding the perfect balance between neck, bridge and splits. That is why I have my bridge PU sitting so high.

If you notice pics of 594 or even newer CE models a lot of times that bridge PU is sitting higher than other models with different pickups.

Another thing, I personally feel these pickups don't live in a high gain world very well....at least the bridge pickup anyway.

Good luck, can't wait to hear your results!!

I'm going to guess the pickups sound soooo good that you have spent all your free time playing your guitar and not bothering to do a tone report.........in which case you get a pass.......lol

Hope it's everything you hoped for!

OK... here we go after picking the guitars up and finishing the work day. Both guitars got a minor spa treatment with a fretboard clean and oil, frets dressed, and an intonation tweak. New NYXL 9-42 installed.
Had about 30 mins between both the McCarty and the 594 SC.
I picked up the McCarty first just because I was curious about how the 58/15s would change this guitar. As I stated before the McCarty pups just seemed a bit dark for me.
Well holy carp! The donor 58/15s turned this guitar into EXACTLY what I was hoping for! Definitely more clear and defined. They sound VERY much like they did in the 594 which became my number one. The splits sound excellent and can get into that twang if you want/need it.
For me this was an amazing and excellent upgrade. The McRosie is DEF going to next practice. Success indeed!
Looks wise, the 58/15 with gold is a nice touch as well...

Now on to the 594 SC...
Again, holy carp!
The rumours/statements I read said these 58/15 LT + pups have a bit of a push in upper mids and highs. Well dayum, they most definitely do. You like gain on a PAF? This is the schlitz! They retain the clarity and definition, but push it more "in your face". You can get to that gain easily and pull it back to clean up nicely with the volume knob. I need to play with this one more for sure.
I REALLY like the split tones in all positions with these. I finally like a split neck/bass pup position!

Right now I'm giddy with the results of the experiment. I'll be beating both of these up over the weekend. One thing I hadn't noticed was the new 58/15 LT + pups are slightly brushed, where the original 58/15 LT are glossy.

Gotta say... so far the trepidation around doing this was unfounded and unnecessary. Time will tell, but I firmly believe the plan is/was solid!
YMMV, but, yeah...

I Am Happy To Hear This As It Sounds Like It Went Well And According To Plan! Good For You!! Based On Your Commentary it Sounds Like A Couple Of Great Guitars Just Got Greater And That Is Always A Wonderful Thing.

Are You Going To Mess With Height Or Is It Already Dialed In The Sweet Spot You Like? I Ask Because If You Could Squeeze And Extra Couple Of % Out Of Them We May Never Hear From You Again. ;)

Congrats My Friend, Glad It Worked Out! :)

Cheers mate!
I'm going to beat these up a bit before seeking adjustments/changes, but yeah... screwdriver is available. :)

I'm so happy to hear you dig these pickups!

I've had so many different pickups in my McCarty and it was one disappointment after another.

LTs turned it into a tone machine, same with my 97 CE with 8515s.
Yeah, gotta say, based on how much I loved them in the 594 I was confident they'd be good in the McRosie. Super stoked with the result! 😁

Great story. So often there is much to gain with the right pickups for the guitar. I have experienced that more than once as well :)
