Did you ever have a night where everything sounded perfect? I mean, in-your-dreams kind of tone? I had one this evening.
I practiced for a while this afternoon, but my recovering nerve problem told me to stop. However, after dinner, I went down to the studio and gave it another shot. Of course, I took a different guitar, and turned on a different amp, just to make it a more interesting day's work.
I have to say, it was only the twinges of pain/stiffness in my arm (had surgery a few weeks back) that caused me to stop. My ears were completely happy. And even the playing went as well as could be expected, given the status of my fingers.
The signal chain: 30th Anniversary CU24 >> Suhr Koji Comp >> Eventide H9 delay >> PRS HXDA 30 amp >> PRS 2x12 "Big Mouth" cabinet.
I turned on the Koji because I wanted to mess with some different clean tones on the amp, and I like what it does for clean tones with other guitars and amps. I started with the guitar volume around 5, the tone around 8.
And I immediately got the most shockingly beautiful, sparkling, ear-haunting tones I've ever gotten with a bridge pickup on any guitar. Ever.
Everything was like crystal, but pick just a little harder and I got crushed glass. Roll the volume up a bit, and it was Duane Live at the Fillmore tone (not the playing, but oh well, it was good enough).
The only disappointing thing was a) I had to stop due to the discomfort and b) I didn't think about getting a demo of these sounds to tape until I started to feel some pain in the arm.
So I apologize that you guys can't hear the tone, but I'm gonna say one thing: It's the best "my tone" I've ever gotten. I'm smitten in the Mitten.
And the CU24 30th is without doubt the epitome of the classic PRS tone. Wow.
