I hate how quickly they take down spec pages for discontinued models... why an obsession with erasing history?

Example: http://www.prsguitars.com/30thanniversarycustom24/ - is gone already. There is lots of dealer stock left too - how does this help interested customers who are using Google to compare instruments, especially when dealers badly want those wall pegs freed up for 2016 stock?

I wish you'd have an archive of all previous models. Make it very clear they are no longer available and left up for reference only. Spec questions come up ALL THE TIME here and on other PRS forums and it's a good way to double check.

It would probably help sell Private Stock too - if someone wants something no longer made...

I agree.
In the past they had pages up of previous years models and spec.

They have 2015 models up still but the link for the Custom 24 goes to the current 2016 Custom 24. So that might be an oversight, but the link from the 30th anniversary info/overview page is the URL I posted above, goes to nothing, which leads me to believe they've just removed the page.

Yes!!!!!!

Please consider putting up an archive of "retired models"

I recently purchased a 2007 Korina McCarty NOS....I didn't even know they were made! I just happened upon a forum where someone mentioned it, and it caused me to seek one out.

An "archive" would REALLY help PRS fans when researching new and secondary markets.

Thanks!

Totally agree. Love the idea of an archive. PRS isn't exactly a young brand anymore and there are plenty of discontinued models that are still floating around in the NOS/used market. It would be really nice to have a place to go to find out more info about discontinued models like that.

I suspect it's the secondary markets they *don't* want to inform which is part of why they have this policy. Fender is the same. But, I think that's an old-fashioned way of thinking in an uber-connected world where the net is the greatest resource for any kind of info.

Think of the volume of emails they would no longer have to deal with too if the info were to hand...

Yeah, they should notice though that specs say 85/15 but pictures show covered pick-ups (which seems like 57/08, if I am not wrong).

I agree with the complaint anyway. The website has been improved lately, it seems a bit more consistent among various pages, but with some many models it would be great to have a comprehensive catalog (not that other brands have this afaik ...).

I think Gibson keeps older stuff online for a lot longer than most...

Great idea! I just bought a NOS guitar from a PRS dealer, and would love to have had more detailed information available.

Surely this request should be going to whoever looks after the website?

Google is good at revealing these legacy pages, but why rely upon that? An archive section would be beneficial.

If the page is removed, eventually Google will lose it forever. Not everything is kept in their "archive" at the moment either.

Many voices > one voice. If the idea has any traction I'm sure someone who pops in here from PRS occasionally can escalate it.

OK. Did some google searching. Found the old, but Japanese, version of the PRS webpage describing my NOS guitar. American version nowhere to be found!

Yes, it seems that Korg (the Japanese distributor) has a mirror up of some of the older stuff - not all of it, but you can find the odd deleted model on it which is cool. The spec pages are in English but the descriptions are all in Japanese though...

Here's an old favourite! :)

The Wayback Machine can be maddeningly incomplete - case in point, it has the 'description' page for the 30th Anniversary CU24, but it never grabbed the 'specs' page.

https://web.archive.org/web/2015011...guitars.com/30thanniversarycustom24/specs.php

(edit: it actually does have a 'specs' page when they launched the new website and went to a 'one page' design - https://web.archive.org/web/20150615120432/http://www.prsguitars.com/30thanniversarycustom24/ - which is cool, but you have to dig to get there!)

It's also not that elegant because it's not easy to search... the most efficient way to use it means you need to know the exact URL of where the content was.

(there IS a search page but just look at it and roll your eyes... https://archive.org/advancedsearch.php ) :D
