Brian May's Red Special by Brian May. A nicely detailed account of the construction of the iconic Red Special guitar built by Brian and his dad. Lots of pictures from the construction. Pictures of Brian's notes. Pictures of the guitar disassembled (Brian's co-author said he'll always remember the look on his face when Brian first saw those pictures). And an absolutely fascinating account of Brian's participation in Queen Elizabeth's Golden Jubilee, when he played "God Save The Queen" from the roof of Buckingham Palace.

One thing that jumped out at me - when Brian describes some of the things they designed for the guitar, they sound awfully familiar. Great minds and such. And the details - if you have any interest in seeing how the magic is made, this is a fabulous source.

Highly recommended.

And now I want one of the BMGs....

In the captivating new Carlton photobook Brian May's Red Special, the Queen guitarist finally divulges the secrets behind his prized axe, taking fans back in time to vicariously oversee the two-year father/son bonding experience that would ultimately produce one of rock 'n' roll's most recognized weapons. . . . Red Special is the pinnacle of guitar porn, revealing the intricate, what-makes-it-tick workings of a beloved musical instrument whilst showcasing its aesthetic beauty.

Cool. I'll have to track down a copy. I had a Burns Red Special for awhile. It was a fun, toneful guitar.

Great Alan! Thanks for the information. I've been wanting to get a copy of that book but haven't managed to make it happen yet. It sounds like a winner.
