I'm looking at a '94 McCarty that has Paul Reed Smith's signature on the back cover. Did Paul sign McCarty's in the first year of the run? I know the first 100 had Ted McCarty's signature and # of the run, but I wasn't aware that PRS had also signed. I understand that someone could just install a signed backplate, but I wasn wondering if there is confirmation that he has signed first runs as well.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!!!

When Paul has events at stores, or at Experience, he often takes a gold paint pen and signs guitars on the cavity covers for people. I have one from a Custom 22 Soapbar that Paul signed 15 years ago. So...not unusual.

I've also seen amps, cabinets, headstocks, etc, that he's signed.

Yeah, that guitar might have been signed just about any time since '94. It wouldn't be weird for somebody who bought a McCarty-signed axe to catch up with Paul at some meet-n-greet and get his signature on it too.

Do you have any photos?

The guitars signed by Ted weren't the first 100. They were very close to the start of production but there are a few out there that pre-date the signed 100. No idea on quantity.

Thanks for the info. The guitar is only signed by PRS, not both Ted McCarty AND PRS. I've heard that this isn't out of the question for PRS to sign at special events, The Experience, etc. Thanks again for the information!! Appreciae it!!
