Recently acquired a 92 McCarty gold top(at least as far as I can tell) it doesn't have tuners in it. Wondering what will fit in without having to do any mods and not break the bank.

Gotoh SD90 is what came on them new back then. You can get them aged too, if you like.

Unless it's been modified, Schaller M6 would require the peg holes be enlarged and a new hole for the screw would need to be drilled. I believe M6 would fit a CE or Custom of that era.

I'm not 100 percent sure if a
It's McCarty or not. They huh I got it from thought he got it in 92 and that's all he knew. The body seems a little fatter than me custom 22 and it's a hard tail.

Okay.
It’s a 1999 Custom 22.
The vintage style tuners that would have come on a McCarty would need two holes vertically drilled - one above and one below the hole for the shaft. Yours does not have that. So not a McCarty.
Your guitar had the wing tuners.

Money is obstacle, would like to get it up and going see what I think of it before I invest a bunch of money.

I'd go with Mann locking klusons for two reasons.

1- sergio is 100% correct in that non trem guitar really DOESN'T NEED lockers but the string changes will go so much quicker.

2- next owner would probably say something like.....oh man.....I wish this had locking tuners!

But most importantly, the guitar in your avatar didn't have kluson vintage style tuners so it may be a moot point.

I have non locking klusons I'd like to trade for brass post lockers.

Hard to read serial number but if first number is actually a 2 then you don't have a McCarty

Phase 2 is what you need, likely less than wings they came on it originally.
I agree. This had the newer version of the winged tuners on it where they went to individual screws for the D and G tuners. The Phase II tuners should fit it.

You could contact John Mann to see if he has any Phase II tuners. He will surely have something that will drop in and not require any modifications.

Oof! Good call, I didn’t look at his avatar pic.

The McCarty wasn’t in production until 1994.
