Hey peeps. I just recently got an CE custom 24, 85/15 pups , I used to have an 03 single cut standard with #7 pups. That guitar tone is what I wanted from this guitar. Is there anyway to dial in that tone. The #7 neck pickup was so sweet and smooth.,even dark and buttery. Lol. Should I lower the neck pup on my custom 24 ? Or would I have to swap out pups. Also do #7s come with coil split? Thanks I’m advance for your responses

Always start with what you already have. Adjust the pickup heights first then on the clean channel adjust each individual pickup pole piece for volume balance. Lastly this is not your Singlecut so you also may want to rethink your amplifier/ effects settings. I know when I swap between various PRS guitars I have I’m always dialing in a different amp setting. Not sure if the #7’s come splittable however a good tech can split them if need be. Good luck. Oh and I have a few CE’s semi hollow and solid (avatar) and I think the Maple neck definitely brightens the tone on that guitar. Your Singlecut had a Mahogany neck.

Adjust pickup heights. I do it with every guitar, probably first thing.

Another big difference in the two guitars you mentioned is the number of frets. This puts the neck pickup in different places. I am much more of a 22 fret fan than I am a 24 fret fan. One of the reasons for that is on a 22 fret guitar the neck pickup sets right under a harmonic node. This does make a difference in the sound of the pickups. It is also why many folks will choose a 22 over a 24 fret guitar or vice versa.

Outside of that, there are a lot of other factors at play here. The neck on the CE is maple. The SC is mahogany. The pickups are obviously different, which you have mentioned. I would definitely adjust the pickup that you have in there. It may be possible to add a tap to it. I would not expect to get it to sound just like the singlecut did. Just try to get it as close as you can. You may find a tone you actually like better at some point.
