As the title suggests, I need to create a playlist featuring Rock songs from the 1980's. The songs need to be somewhat familiar to the gen-pop and I want to stay away from hair metal as much as possible. I need two slow-ish songs and about 12-15 rockers.

Whatcha got for me?

“You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’” - Judas Priest
“Come On Feel The Noize” - Quiet Riot
“Too Much Time On My Hands” & “Best Of Times” - Styx (or you could go “Mr. Roboto” for a little silly)
“Walking On Sunshine” - Katrina & The Waves

And because I have to go there...

“Heaven’s On Fire”, “Lick It Up”, “I Still Love You”.

-You Shook me all night long AC/DC
-Crazy Train -OZZY
-Lonely is the night -Squier
-Rock you like a Hurricane-Scorpions
-No one like you-Scorpions
-any song by Rush

Just put on Rick Springfield's greatest hits and head for the open bar.

I know, I know... you work hard to eschew anything with a good melody and popular appeal. Short of starting your own Mumford band (and 'thank you' for that), I think you've done a masterful job of preserving the ultra-cool-music-guy vibe. So, out of my enduring love and adoration for you, my brother, I promise to look the other way while you're secretly enjoying 'Rock of Life'. I even promise not to take your photo if I catch you grinning ear-to-ear while watching all the chicks (hot or not) dancing and singing along to every-damn-word.

;)

This timeframe screams for John Cougar Mellencamp, and some Prince.

All time-frames call for Prince.
