I think one of the S2's is calling my name. I just can't figure out which. I'm curious how the #7's compare to 57/08 and SE245's. I have a P22 with 57/08's and a ZM SE Spalted on order with SE245's. Are the #7's pretty much within the tonal ranges the 57/08's and SE245's will cover? If so, I think I'm focusing on the Starla. If not, then it's between the Singlecut and the Starla.

Looking forward to the discussion. Thanks!

#7's are a hotter vintage type pickup. Everybody's ear is different, but I hear a clear tight tone from #7's. One of my favorite pups of all the PRS's and I'm not alone. I've got 57/08's in a Custom 22 and a Standard, and #7's in my Singlecuts. They are both great pups, but they do a different job. In a singlecut the #7's are more powerful than the 57/08's and they still clean up great. I've got a Starla too. The pups in the Starla are more Gretsch like, more jangly. Again, they do a different job. You will find the Starla much different than your other two guitars. You have to like the Bigsby though. It can be a love/hate kind of thing. I got one of the few Starla Stoptails. Just what I needed.

All I can say about #7s is I swapped my se245s for them and they are brilliant. I get nice cleans to heavy rock tones including a old school Metallica type. Hope this helps.

I'm planning on putting a set of #7's in my Zach SE when it arrives (probably with p/p coil splits on the tone pots)...so there's another option to consider. P22, Souped up ZM would cover a lot of ground tonally...then you could add a Starla for the Gretsch vibe...I assume you're not a Fender/Singlecoil fan or I'd suggest a Brent Mason. Can't go wrong no matter what you choose, all great guitars.

I really like the 7s in my SCT other have not had much luck with them they are right between the RP and the 57/08 (except the neck pickup is hotter than the #7 neck )
Check out CRGTR pickup demos on YouTube.

RP Treb - 9.2 Bass 8.2

If you're talking about the old #7's they don't split. The S2 versions might.

The comments here on #7's vs. 57/08s are spot-on. The #7's are hotter and brighter. Really good if you've got lots of gain, or played really clean. For vintagey medium-gain amps I think the 57/08s sound way better.

They sound definitely brighter and sharper than the 5x/xx series. Perfect for modern rock imho

You are making us buy s2s you know? :)

In fact, it is done! I have a S2 Hollowbody Singlecut shipping out on Monday. Will post pics when I get it, but just go to Brian's Guitars online and take a look. Killer top!!! Can't wait to play it!!!

Thanks for the info guys!
