Hi Guys - new to PRS new to the forum. I just drove 5 hours yesterday to Sweetwater to try out PRS core guitars. I ended up buying a 594 double cut charcoal burst. I'm pumped - that guitar sounds/feels amazing. Not in stock so waiting for it to arrive.

Here is my question - when in the middle position one volume control seemed to control both pickups. Will someone explain how that works?? I can't mess with it b/c I don't physically have it yet. If this is covered somewhere else in the forums I'm sorry.

Thanks again for any help.

Hiya!

The volumes interact when in the middle position. This is by design and how many a Gibson works as well.

It allows you to get some interesting and useful shades of volume and tone. For example, in the middle position, if you turn the neck volume down to about 9, it sounds like a slightly darker, fuller version of the bridge pickup. Roll it down some more and it's like a darker, quieter version of the bridge pickup. Great for rhythm playing and then you can switch to bridge alone for leads.

You can balance the pickups in different ways by rolling both volumes to various points. But since the pickups are linked, if you turn one all the way down, it cuts off the other. It's a lot of fun to experiment with and you won't find a bad tone in a 594. Looking forward to some NGD pics once you get it!

And I didn't even mention the individual coil splits. That adds another dimension.

Absolutely!! Should be in late June or early July. I'm going to be traveling to Baltimore in the next month for work. I'm seriously considering taking the tour of the PRS factory. I hope that works out. Thanks guys.

Definitely do the tour. It`s about a half an hour from Baltimore. If you get to the inner harbor, note the guitar on the top of the Hard Rock Cafe. it`s too cool for school.
