594 Question

I tried a used 594 (doublecut) in my local shop today (into a Blues jr.), and it seemed to me like the neck pickup was noticeably louder than the bridge. Is that normal for 594s, or was the previous owner likely fiddling with pickup height? Not a dealbreaker because I imagine it's something I can adjust, I'm just curious. Also, is it possible that I just perceived it as louder because of the added low end?

Am I right in thinking that it's a pretty simple task to adjust the pickup height that I easily do myself?

Could be the low end, especially if you weren't playing very loud. It's different with an amp cranked in a mix.

Anyway, the two pickups work great together and are easy to adjust.

I'd have to chime in here. Most all pics I've seen of the new ce24s with 8515s have the bridge pickup really high. Most 594s I've seen are that way too. I have a 5909 bridge/8515 neck in my Mccarty and the 5909 is really high in order to balance out.

I do seem to run more bass on my amp so that probably has a lot to do with my situation but still I think the 8515/5815 neck is pretty powerful.

I have two 594s. Coming from the factory, there isn’t a volume difference between bass and treble pickups, though as gush mentions above, setting the amp for more bottom end will make a neck pickup seem louder (Fletcher-Munson curve).

it's very possible your perception is correct. They are 2 identical pickups in the 594, exact same resistance, most guitars you play the bridge pickup is 20 to 50% louder much higher resistance than the neck pickup. so probably you have a distorted perception of how the bridge pickups should be relative to the neck pickup, but I noticed it on my 1st 594. the neck pickup was louder than the bridge pickup. I looked at all the photographs and the Google images , my neck pickup was raised quite high, from the dealer, so I lowered it to match the images from the factory photos, the neck pickups come standard from the factory completely nearly flush with the pickup ring. I noticed that the bridge pickup is raised apparently extremely high from the factory but is correct and that set up works beautifully, equal volume for the middle position. here's a picture of one set up perfectly. I have mine currently set up identical to this. less than 10 seconds to adjust with a number 1 Phillips screwdriver
