I just got my 594 Artist about a week ago. Rosewood neck with ebony board. Probably my favorite PRS and I've owned a lot. I have noticed that the smallest changes in pickup height effect tone dramatically. What height are you guys setting them to on your 594?

It is a great guitar.

It's all really a matter of taste. I just don't set them so high that the magnetic field dampens the string vibration.

I haven't felt the need to change mine. But if anything, the neck is a little boomy relative to the bridge, so perhaps I'll take the bridge down a hair to even them out a bit. But it certainly isn't something that is urgent.

I’ve generally found all my PRS pickups sound good at the factory recommended height. I start there and tweak minimally until I’m happy. My 594 has a hotter neck pickup than bridge but they seem to like to be set at pretty much the same heights anyways.

What’s the factory height? What’s the factory height for a DGT? A CU24? A Vela? This isn’t something I think I’ve seen published.

The factory height on their site is 3/32 bass side 5/64 treble side with string depressed at last fret. There aren’t any model specific guidelines, it’s really just a starting point but I’ve found it sounds pretty good as is.

With all humbuckers I start at about 3/32 and adjust to taste. If you fiddle with them both ways from there you’ll hear a sweet spot :)

Factory height when I unpacked the guitar was what I kept...gave me the tone I was going for. I had other PRS' for other tones.
