594 open tuning and setup question

I play a lot of slide in open E and am considering putting some really heavy strings on my 594 and tuning to open C. Has anyone else tried this and what string gauge do you use? I'm cool with setting it up myself, except for filing the nut and bridge for bigger strings. Is this something that PTC should handle?
