I may or may not have something incoming and am curious what you may think of these pickups through a high gain amp, anyone done the high gain thing with these? I am talking at least a modded Marshall tone from a Bogner Helios and the like. I have experience with the 57/08’s but these sound like they are even tamer? I do have a 59/09 in my stash drawer if I need it but will give these a fair shake.

I replaced the pickups in my S2 594 Singlecut with a set of 58/15 LT and find them to do well with high gain tones. I've used this guitar quite a bit with my Helix rig (Helix HX Stomp XL, Mission Engineering Exp. pedal to FOH and a Headrush FRFRF 108 for stage sound) and have found these pickups to be punchy and articulate. You're not going to get the crazy saturation that you can get with something like a Fluence Modern or EMG active set, but they do quite well for all manner of rock. The amp models that I use the most are the Mandarin Rocker (model of Orange Rockerverb 100 MKIII), Placater (model of Friedman BE100), Das Benzin Lead (model of Diezel VH4 lead channel), and Archetype (model of PRS Archon). With any of these models, the pickups give me really nice articulate tones, even at higher gain settings (typically for high gain I run the gain at around 7.5-9) that have good bite and dynamics. Definitely worth a try to see if it works for your purposes.

FYI, when gigging, the 58/15 LT equipped guitar is typically used for things like Foo Fighters, STP, some Dio, Iron Maiden, and the occasional Alice in Chains tunes.

Yeah our tastes are pretty much similar for music, hoping for the best from the pups. Thanks

I find that they're good for just about everything I play, including the high gain stuff. However, occasionally if I feel I need that extra push over the cliff (and since my amp doesn't go to 11), I picked up a little boost pedal and have it right at the beginning of the signal chain. It's set very low, but helps boost that slightly lower output the LT's give, while preserving their tone.
I got it on sale for $40, right now it's $60

I plug my 594 into a Boogie TC-50 and it sounds great. I do use a boost, but that is mostly for the mid-gain channel of the TC-50 which needs a little help to come alive. But it also adds a little bit of "oomph" on the high gain channel.

I have been playing mine through some high gain presets on my Axe-FX III and they do well. I wouldn’t take them over a set of 59/09s or 408s but I am fortunate enough to have the luxury of other guitars with those pickups.

I’ve one of these on my board. It’s the sort of pedal you could have on permanently (giving a small boost), and a second boost for solos etc.

In Holland there was a progmetal guitar player - Marcel Coenen - who released a signature guitar with Bo-El. Somewhere early 00's. He turned heads using low output PUs (HB) and his philosophy was: gain from the amp, clarity and punch from the PUs make for a great metal combination.

Look forward to clips of that. The deal got done so the LT’s are incoming.
Please do!! :)

Well considering I'm a newb at recording still.. I'm happy I at least got one quick clip put together (Caution: the track level exported kinda hot). I had been playing along to a cover of Hum — In the Den, so I just played some of the rhythm section here. It's in drop B, which is probably not ideal, but I thought it'd be fun to see how the 594 handled such low tuning. I was actually quite surprised at how similar they recorded, despite the differences in setup. Chain is: Guitar → 2 channel Recto Rack (Red Modern, no boost) → Suhr RL → IR (York Audio Mesa 412 OS-V2 Mix 01). Gain on the amp is about 11:00, more than enough for me, and actually more than I should use to record with.

Guitar 1: McCarty w/ Metal pickup (bridge pos.), 9.5-46 strings
Guitar 2: McCarty 594 w/ 58/15LT pickup (bridge pos.), 9-42 strings

So would you be interested to know I switched between guitar recordings 5 times in this track? And I didn't even DI/reamp it. I recorded both as separate performances and cut between them.

Just cuz it was a cool cover, here's something you can waste time on, too:

I am probably in the minority, but I am not a fan of the 58/15 LTs. I find that the 58/15 TM, 58/15 MT, and 57/08 all work best for high gain tones but also having the PAF feel/sound at lower gain. I have sold every guitar I've bought with 58/15s. The 58/15 MTs are my favorite but I think those were only in the original runs of the Special Semi-Hollows.
