Just picked up a 91 CE24 with maple top and alder back. It still has the original HFS/VB pups, but I've never been a fan. I presently have a pair of covered 57/08s (which I love) and a set of Johnny Hilands (which I have no experience with, but have read a lot of great things about). I am opening it up to the floor for recommendations/arguments in favor of. By the way, to complete the sonic landscape, it has a maple/maple JH neck. Thanks

If your 5708s are squabbins then they may not go low enough to get the proper pickup to string clearance. 5708s are excellent pickups indeed.

No experience with JH pickups.

That is a SERIOUSLY cool guitar! As for the pickups:

57/08's will be a little warmer and have a little more juice. They also feel great to play in that they are tight and clear PAF's but with some give in the top end. All PRS' s new h umbuckers are killer and this is no exception. The JH ones from my recollection are also tight and clear and will be brighter than the 57/08's with a little less output. If it is me......I am throwing the 57/08's in.
