I'm new to PRS pickups beyond HFS/VB and Dragon iterations (and I had #7s in my Singlecut for a hot second before I swapped them)

I've seen several members rave about a 57/08 neck and 59/09 bridge combo...
I'm getting an old Standard with 57/08s installed (I could not pass up the deal, and yes I'll post NGD pics) and am just curious what I'm in for tonally...

There's quite a few variations of the 5708 over the years. From more like 5815LT to 5909 and inbetween. Some prefer the OG others the newer or even the newest. My favorite 5708 bridge was the iteration available through the accessory store before the last spec update. It's most similar to a covered 5909.

I'm one of those 5909 and 5708 combo supporters. But I also like a pair of 5708. Pair of 5909 too. And maybe my fav combo is the 5815LT in the neck paired with a 5909 or 5708 in the bridge. Really it's all up to the player and/or guitar. You can't go wrong with 5708 though.

I love both a 58/07 and a 59/09 in the bridge and neck. So ones guitar has 07's and one has 09's. Did not do the 07 neck and 09 bridge thing. I like both as a set on one guitar!

Not to muddy the waters, but I've also heard great things about the \m/ pickups...and that they are akin to the old Dragon 1s.
Are they a ceramic mag? Anybody here pair the \m/ with the 57/08?

I'm in the minority here, but I really like 5708 and never could get along with 5909. It's been a long time since I tried a 5909, so I don't remember what turned me off to them. Several 5708's over the years and liked them all, but occasionally there were a couple that squealed under high gain that couldn't be tamed.

I, too, have loved every 57/08 I've ever had--but I could never get along with the uncovered/squabbin 59/09 aftermarkets from the PRS store. (Have tried them at least a couple times.) The earlier covered 59/09's, though? Wonderful! It's so weird...

Personally I’m just as much a fan of the 57/08 bridge as the 59/09, just depends on the vibe you’re after. In the wider conversation of humbucker pickups, it’s a pretty narrow slice of the pie that they fit in.

I’d love to get my hands on a Dragon 1 bridge pup…as it’s a known entity…
If you cannot, I would try the Seymour Duncan "Duncan Custom" or a Dimarzio "Super Distortion." Both are ceramic-magnets and heavily overwound to around 14k. The Dragon 1 bridge is very close to that.

My 59/09 bridge is a covered version. With a 57/08 in the neck, it's a great combination.

I had a covered 57/08 - 59/09 combo and the 57/08 was to dark compaired to the 59/09 for me , I was able to get a covered 59/09 and it was a better match ( again for me ) , I do like the 57/08s and 59/09s just not paired with each other
