57/08 Pickups Are Muddy When Together, Low Volume

Hello All,

I installed 57/08 pickups in my 05' PRS McCarty using the "McCarty Drop In Multi Conductor" kit from PRS accessories. Each pickup sounds great with the volume knob turned down and up to 10.

However, when in the middle position and both pickups are being used, unless the guitar volume is on 10 it just sounds so muddy. When it gets to 10, it really clears up, but from 9 down it is nearly unusable.

Any ideas? Any suggestions? I have a Les Paul (stock pickups, wiring) and it does not do this at lower guitar volumes with both pickups so I feel like something is off either with the wiring, or something else.

First how are the pick ups wired to the selector switch? Second, download the McCarty wiring diagram and follow one wire at time, compare with diagram. Why did you change the wiring? Your McCarty comes from the factory wired like the drop-in kit.

Hi, it does match the wiring diagram provided by PRS customer support. I changed it because the old wiring wouldn’t work easily with the pickups. It was for ease of install.
