this may be a long shot, but here goes. i've got a 07 satin singlecut with a 57/08 in the bridge that is glorious, and a 53/10 in the neck that is also excellent. but you know, i cant stop thinking how a 57/08 would sound in the neck matched with the bridge. has anyone heard both 53/10 and 57/08 neck pups in a singlecut, and what are the differances.

I've had both in a Singlecut and can answer your question.

The 53/10 neck pickup sounds very full and round, with a well-defined, round pick attack, great for solos on the neck pickup, especially on the cleaner side where you could really hear its definition and clarity. The tone is what I'd call "woody."

The 57/08 neck pickup has a more flute-like quality, with a more searing or sharp attack, and is bit more "throaty."

Both are tremendous pickups.

I would probably stick with what you have, it's a great combination of tones. But we're all different.

wow, thanks for the great description. i do love the 53/10 neck for solo's, but sometimes under high gain, chords get a little too bassy.

That might be the case either way, as the SC has gobs of low end with either pickup, though the 57/08 might have a bit more bite at the pick attack.

When I play higher gain stuff on the SC neck pickups, I use a Fulltone Catalyst in clean boost mode, but I don't boost anything, I just use the EQ to take out some of the bass.

When I'm recording, I just roll off some bass at the amp, and use a high pass filter if necessary.

I also keep my speaker cab on an Isoacoustics IsoL8R stand, which is very effective at cleaning up low end mud acoustically.

I have the 53/10's in my P22, I use my neck pickup 80% of the time, it's one of the best neck pickups I've played. 'Woody' is a great term to explain the tone. I prefer it to my friends Custom with 57/08's (still great pups)

Dang it! You're talking about the same guitar I'm trying to avoid buying!

I'd keep the current setup, too. The 53/10 is a great pickup in the neck (or the bridge!).

WOW. what a great looking guitar. beautiful color. persoanally, i'd jump all over that if i didn't have one. my 07 satin is in blue matteo. alot of people dont care for the satin finish, and that's fine, to each his own, but I love mine to no end. maybe it's because there doesent seem to be a lotta love for them or what, but it's very special to me.

I haven't tried either but have you considered a 59/09 bass? Too hot? Actually ...probably would be, paired with the 57/08.
I LOVE the 59/09 bass in the neck of my SC. It's the best neck bucker I've ever used....and, they can be had for a lot less than either the 57/08s or 53/10s.
Maybe consider, if you see one come up real cheap, getting a 59/09 Treble and shifting your 57/08 to the neck position? Probably a silly idea. Nevermind.
I sure do love the 59/09 Bass in the neck of my SC though.

hello mr. blaren, I have a set of 59/09's in my mccarty korina, and absoloutely love them. before I put the 57/08 in the bridge of my singlecut, i did try a nother 59/09, and much to my suprise, did not like it at all in the singlecut. different bodies, thickness, woods, you know. dont get me wrong, i really like the 53/10, just always curious how a matched 57/08's would sound. (all these numbers are making me crazy!)

I like both the 57/08 and 53/10 neck pickups a lot. I think the 53/10 version sounds a little better split, if that matters to you...totally depends on the type of music you like to play.

Yes i must agree, the 53/10 does sound really nice split. persoanlly, I think the 59/09's sound the best split out of the 3- 50's series pups.

Do you play in a band or turn up to those levels? I feel like when I play loud, all the pickup tone hair splitting goes out the window. Maybe that's because I have the 53/10's in my HBII. Welcome to Tone Town, Population: You.

get used to it

wow, thanks for the great description. i do love the 53/10 neck for solo's, but sometimes under high gain, chords get a little too bassy.

it's inherent with the placement of the pickup with a 22 fret model, any guitar, any brand. The second order harmonics are canceled out. Les Pauls have always had that bassy - muddy neck pickup issue. You can battle it with a brighter pickup but your ear will still be missing the mid frequencies that are lost.

My 96 Custom 24 doesn't have that issue as the pickups are in the perfect spot. Paul's original design was spot on. He later bowed to the will of the masses and started producing 22 fret models....but don't think he didn't know about this.
With that said my DGT sounds great but I lean on the treble pickup.

Now if I would just put those DGT pickups in my 24 hmmmm
