Hey 53/10 equipped guitar players, do you roll off the volume and or tone to dial in your pickups? I've found them to be a little unforgiving and by turning my amp up a little and rolling off the volume a notch or two they balance out and sound a little more like PAFs. I also find the bridge to be a little ice picky unless I roll the tone back two or three notches (I have them in my HBII with rw neck and ebony board). What are your experiences/techniques with these pups?

I tend to keep the volume rolled off a little, too. The output is a little higher than my 57/08-equipped guitars, so it helps there, as well.

I always rolled them off, but I roll off all my pickups. That way I can control the amp's gain from the guitar better.

It's not that the 53/10s are actually hotter, to my ear they have a bit of a rounder, fuller pick attack, but this decays pretty quickly in the ADSR envelope. I think that's probably what you're hearing that gives you the impression that they're hotter.

In any event, I do like them rolled off a bit. They're good pickups.

Mine are wide open... I hear too much treble roll off if I dial back the volume on my P22. ;)

On my Paul's with the 408's, I use it all the time. :D

Same here, although mine are in solidbody guitars with mahogany necks so it's not an apples to apples comparison to what the OP is experiencing. They sound very articulate when run wide open so I don't typically roll them down at all. :)

I only have a 53/10 in the neck position of a satin singlecut. I keep the tone pot wide open ALL the time, but adjust the volume depending on the song part. I love the 53/10 neck pup, but wasn't thrilled with the bridge pup. replaced it with a 57/08. great match.
