This is a long one so get a beer.

I picked up a 513 recently for a great price. I was confused with the guitar when I bought it with a switch mounted between the volume and tone knobs.

The guitar appeared to have been fitted with Graphtec saddles too. No biggy the originals were in the case.

So home I trotted with the guitar pleased with my new purchase.

The switch was bugging me. What did it do? I couldn't hear anything when moving it....hmmmm!!!!

So, investigation mode ensued.

It transpires that the guitar was fitted with a Graphtec Ghost piezo system. The tone control swapped out for a volume control to work along with the piezo.

Cool...a 513P22...I liked the idea and all I was missing was a 2 way stereo cable to activate the piezo.......NOPE!!!!

The previous owner had bought the guitar through eBay and immediately stripped out the piezo system cutting the wires right back to the saddles.

The original tone pot was reinstalled and I now have a 513 with a dead mini toggle switch attached to, well, nothing, and a ruined piezo system

The guitar was taken back to the store who in all fairness didn't realise that the guitar had been modded. I was offered a further ( large discount ) on the guitar. I accepted the offer and once more trotted home with the guitar.

So...yesterday I was at band practice with the guitar and noticed that the volume control doesn't kill the guitar on a gain channel. The volume bleeds through and the strings can be heard.

I have also noticed that if I roll off the volume to try and clean the guitar up, once more on a gain channel, the guitar sounds like it is through a wah pedal.

So...if anyone is still reading and with me, what's wired up incorrectly?

It bleeds sound in all positions of the extra switch? I had this with my Cu24 that had the graphtech and it was a grounding cable IIRC....
Is there a capacitor on the volume control?
Also, I would reinstall the graphtech system if I were you...
I wouldn't dare do this to my BRW513, but since this one is readilly routed for this I would reinstall it.

The extra switch isn't wired to anything. The volume bleeds through in all positions on a gain channel.

I have spoken to a guy at work about this who thinks it may be the capacitor soldered to the wrong legs on the tone pot. I'm not comfortable wiring pickups etc...I leave that to the guys that know their way around a wiring diagram.

I have thought about reinstalling the piezo...after Christmas. A new Ghost system plus the cost of having it installed will run to about £200 in the UK.

A bad capacitor, or a wrongly wired one could be it...
If you factor in the discount you got and the fact that the guitar is already drilled for it I think the piezo install is worth it.
And BTW you forgot to post some pics of the guitar! ;)

I have a Private Stock 513 with a Ghost system. You really need the tone control on a 513. I am really surprised this guy decided to get rid of it. If you could get some sort of tandem volume control, that would be the ticket.

As far as the volume control problem, it sounds like the the tone pot is not wired to ground properly and is leaking signal.
