513 question

It's been a while since I've had a 513 but I certainly don't recall anything that sounded like that. Hey @Rider1260 and @RickP maybe you can chime in?

No, nothing at all like that. It was my go-to Santana sound, rich and full. Might be something in the pedal combo, possibly. I put a Tube Screamer after another type pedal once and it sounded pretty awful, reversed them and it sounded nice. Not sure what causes that.

At any rate, I never had that sort of sound out of any 513 I played.

Awesome suggestion. Always forget about pedal chains. I did run just the bonsai through the amp and still has same tone. Farted around with the eventide H9 and messed with some EQ settings and I think my fail safe will just be a separate EQ pedal. Or parametric EQ pedal.

Any possibility something is clashing with the push-pull mod? Maybe something not in phase? Can you disconnect that to test?

So tested my 513 thru my 3 amps , with and without pedals .
Mine is just louder and darker and a bit more compressed in Hot Humbucker mode , biggest difference clean where most of my amps aren't clean being pushed with that pickup.
I'm thinking something is out of phase on your guitar if I had to guess.
If you are looking for an EQ pedal look at the J Rocket Melody pedal , EQ / OD in one.

Does anyone know where I can find wiring diagrams for the 516 mod? I’m thinking a wire might be crossed somewhere causing it to have that phased/brian may tone.

So update. Ended up taking it to a local shop. The guy was super nice but not familiar with the 513. Brought the guitar back home. Noticed the pickup heights were high on the bridge side and kind of low on the neck side. Used a feeler gauge to try and get an idea of where they sat and compared to PRS spec of the 509. Ended up not caring lol and was adjusting to my ear. The guitar sounds completely different in a good way. I’ll attach a clip.

I stumbled across the Murali mod and I'm very interested in the 515+3 mod. Are there any kind souls on here that can provide guidance and/or instruction on how to do this? I have a 2015 PRS 513 and I believe it is non-PCB. Thanks!

Another update. Messed with pick height a little more. Mainly the bridge. Actually lowered on the bass side slightly and up slightly on the treble side and wow. This guitar rips. Can get every sound from Hendrix, to Beck, to Zappa, and so on. I’ll record another video in a day or two.
