408 vs Paul's Help~~!

Ok, so a little background first.
Been playing my Wood Library DGT at band practice and decided to take my Paul's guitar this last weekend. An wow! The DGT sounds great but it was like my rig sounded a billion times better. Got me seriously considering trading my DGT for a 408 MT...SO...

The Paul's guitar and the 408MT should sound very similar, right? And a 408 Standard should sound just a tad darker???

Anybody every play a Paul's guitar and a 408 and hear the difference between them?? Any thoughts about the 408 from 408 owners??

I played both before ordering my 408. The neck pickups sounded very similar, almost no difference to my ear. The bridge pickups did sound a bit different. The Pauls' Guitar sounded more vocal and focused, the 408 bridge was a bit fuller sounding. I can't imagine liking the Pauls' Guitar and not liking the 408, tonewise.

Great description of the bridge pick up! I was wondering if the bridge pick up on the 408, since its bigger, might be a bit hotter

Interesting. I demoed a Paul's and two different 408s back-to-back-to-back. I felt the bridge on the Paul's had more body. It seemed hotter (as did the neck) than the 408. I guess I would say the Paul's was a little more in your face. All were amazing. The rosewood necked 408 seemed to de-emphasize the mids a bit, producing a little more bell-like tone.

I definitely agree with you about the Paul's being more in your face. The 408 has a great clarity to it that I love, but the Paul's does have an awesome midrange thing going on.

I owned a DGT and sold it as 408 worked better with my rig as well(mesa and marshall).
I still miss DGT time to time and I would love to buy one again, but 408 is just about the most perfect guitar for me.

Agreed with the comments sofar. The PG has more of a "singing/vocal" quality which you cannot beat for leads. If you are going to do a little more chugga chugga with the neck then I feel the wider 408s are better suited for that, and also sound great for leads.

This is PG vs. 408 Brazzy vs. Signature Limited. All different. All awesome.

Think o am going to pull the trigger on this deal. The 408, while not being a Paul's Guitar, is about as close as I think I can get. The DGT is amazing, and I'm losing a bit on it, but from the comments on here (thank you guys very much btw) I think the 408 would be a great everyday guitar to handle all my cover band stuff.

The split on the bridge of my 408 is to die for ( IMHO ) the Pauls guitar is great but I like the( my ) 408 ( standard , rosewood ) better
