They're open back, not sure what the closed housing is referring to. I've used all 3 types and much prefer the IIIs, they just feel so much better with the new ratio. Function wise there's no issues, acoustics and basses have had them for ages. I think there may be some explanation in the Rules of Tone vids?

I'd say the 408s are something different to either tapping or splitting, since there's also windings being added on the active slug.

Anyway it's just semantics, we know what CR means!

They're actually both splits AND taps, with the split activating the entire slug coil and a 1500 windings tap from the screw coil.

Open back tuners are nothing to be put off by, as said above bases and acoustics have had them for years,

Go for it, but I don't reckon it will be as catchy as "squabbins"!

How many Strats do you have? Selling 7 implies you'll have some left over! Just bear in mind a 408 is a completely different beast, if you need the position 2 and 4 in between quack sounds, you won't find them in this guitar. You'd be better off with a 305/513/DC3/NF3/Studio/SAS/Custom soapy etc. I use those tones regularly and it's the only thing stopping me for selling something and picking up a siggy/408
