408 pickups need a buffer?

Am I reading this right? Some people stating that the 408s need a buffer between the guitar and amp in order to sound their best? Something to do with 500K output?

Can anybody explain?

Not true.

All guitars with long cable runs (generally, more than 20 feet or so) or large pedal boards get better signal to the amp with a high quality buffer. But if you're going with a cable under 20 feet into the amp with no pedalboard, you don't need one no matter what guitar you use.

A buffer simply preserves the high frequency signal that is lost in longer cable runs.

I have no issues with my 408 in fact it seems to push long cable runs better than most guitars.
My only observation of the 408 is they seem to have a flatter EQ curve than most guitars.
