Hi all!

Almost everybody knows, in general, how PAF, Tele or Strat pickups are build, but how about 408s? I couldn't find a single source about magnet types, type of wire or general build-up.

Now, I understand, it is unlikely you are going to dissect the ones from your guitars and it is proprietary information altogether, but if there is more info out there, I'd be very curious. Is it 50s style wire, PAF build, Alnico magnets etc.?

Hope to learn a little...

Pretty sure they use 57/08 wire, and obviously the special split/tap system (splap) which I understand to work like this:

Single coil mode - coils are split and one coil untapped to "add" 1500 winds to the active coil.

Humbuckers mode - coils aren't split, but one coil is tapped to "remove" 1500 winds from a coil.

Apart from that, no more details sorry.

Other than the fact that I like 408s for there very flat EQ, I can also tell you nothing I have even been unable to measure the ohms on them
