408 compared to 57/08

Apples to Oranges. My little mini-stable has included both. They are very different sounding pickups.

The 57/08s are a classic PAF sound, sweet, articulate, etc. IMHO will be regarded down the road as the classic PRS humbucker.

The 408s are even more articulate, substantially brighter, but intentionally different. They do their own thing, though with tone control, etc., they can approximate the 57/08 sound. Split, of course, they are an entirely different sound from any other humbucker, much more of a true single coil sound.

I agree with my man LS here.

I have much less sustain and sound flabbier, especially when I run. :vroam:

I have an earlier edition of the 57/08s, and they're lower output than the 408s. Split, they exhibit the usual volume drop in SC mode. No complaints about either - both very clear and versatile.
