4-Henry Inductor in NS model - what does it do?

I was perusing the schematics earlier and came across the NS-14 model and its 4-Henry Inductor:

What does the inductor do?

Looks like you can switch in and out a passive midrange cut

Now I'm wondering about putting one in one of my guitars to see what it does!

Bill Lawrence created a dedicated inductor for this very purpose, called the Q-Filter. It was used on the Gibson L6S in the 70's.

In series with a cap, as in the article above, it shifts the midrange. Without the cap, turning the knob down effectively works like taking winds off the pickup, so you can turn a high output pickup into a low output pickup with the twist of a knob.

I experimented with one a few times but always ended up taking it out.
