1985 x 2=

I recently sold my Emerald Green 1986 Custom, and found the black 1985 PRS Guitar to add to my collection instead. She's 100% original, and came with the blue-lined case. There are two small problems with her though. One of the humbucker mounting rings is cracked, and there's a crack in the trem cover. Overall though, she's in pretty sweet condition. I think they make a pretty good pair.

I still have the VY, but sold the black one. It was replaced by a Pearl Black 85...the dark metallic blue finish. My wife claims that as her favorite of my guitars.

There you go - my entry Both '85s. The early cases are all over the place but the very first ones mostly look like these with a few exceptions. Locks / latches and general style suggest they were made by the same company that made Fender's cases in the 60s.
