Local store has a 30th anniversary custom 24 in faded whale blue. Would you consider this an investment grade guitar or just a player?

I wouldn't consider any guitar "investment" anything -- I buy the ones that are pretty to me because it pleases me to own them and motivates me to play them more. The only ones I've seen become more valuable ("investment") are the limited runs.

However, I will say that I think PRS is in a shining year right now and when people look back on this particular era of their guitar-making, it will be considered one of the better years. So if life is fair, it should retain its value more than previous years.

I can't think of a single PRS guitar that's ever genuinely appreciated in value, keeping pace with inflation, since about 1986 - even limited runs. Don't buy it as an "investment" - buy it because it's an awesome guitar!

PRS has the possibility of their guitars being "investments" but like other art forms that is probably not for a couple decades down the road.

If you are thinking along these lines, a special edition of any kind would have a greater likelihood of that and should retain a more appealing value to the next owner. That faded Whale Blue is personally my favorite PRS color if I was buying a core instrument.

If you were buying to sell in another country such as Australia there's a distinct possibility that you could make quite a bit on it should you move or travel purely to merchandise. (I used to buy Levi's every time I'd travel to Europe, I'd sell them at any weekly market and they would pay for my plane ticket.) :D
