I've been really wanting to add a 4th PRS, specifically to gain those quacky 2 & 4 position sounds.... while 3k for a Spec.22 semi-hollow is a lil over budget, I've been looking at maybe a SAS, and a Silver Sky, and then other guitar in general. Today, I see a new product called a Freeway Switch. These are made for tele & strat, as well as the normal 3 way toggles like in a PRS (or LP). Then, I thought - I could add a switch to my McCarty & try it out for some funkier sounds!!!

Has anyone else been down this road with wanting the quackier sounds of 2 & 4, and "found success" with a Freeway 6 way switch?

Ooh - I don't have advice, but that switch looks interesting. One of the few things I dislike on my Vela os the push-pull pot for coil tapping. I was considering having a tech drill the pickguard and add a mini toggle, but this might do the job easier while replacing the reportedly weak stock switch....

I've seen your posts about Velas.... I have a feeling that if I ever find a satin semi-hollow out in the wild & can play it, I'll like just bring it on home!!

That's a pretty cool idea for a switching system! I haven't tried one, but it seems like it'd make a versatile guitar even more so.

Having a bunch more than usual switching combinations on the Special SH (with the blade and mini-toggles instead of a single switch, of course) has been pretty darn interesting!

I agree!!! I've got a McCarty & a DGT.... I always pick up the DGT first. So, I wouldn't mind getting a little creative with the pickup positions on the McCarty... unless I loved this switch, and then I'd like want to add it to my DGT too!

I'm not looking at this switch for speed, I've got no issues with the push/pull & 3 way. I am merely interested in those parallel type of strat-like 2 & 4 sounds.

I have a 10 way on a HSH strat. It's amazing for that application. High quality switch too. The blade is two banks of 5 on top of each other. You can configure the wiring many different ways that suit your needs or brain logic to make really easy to use. They have wiring diagrams on their site to get an idea of possible configurations.

I've got the 6 way on a cu22 and an sc245 and gig them regularly. No issues so far.

The sounds are close enough for a dance cover band for sure.

I do not have stock pups in either guitar though.

I put the 6 way Freeway in my SAS. It works well enough, but I find every single setting is different from the original sonically. This is not a bad thing, they’re just different. With the push/pull on the tone, there’s a helluva lot of different sounds available.

I absolutely love my satin semi hollow Vela! I know we're talking freeway but...

All this Vela talk deserves a pic
